Another distracted driving fatality near Chambersburg

On Behalf of | Sep 6, 2014 | Car Accidents

It’s hard to tell if car are becoming safer or more dangerous. Sure, they have better, more effective safety equipment. They come with airbags, seatbelts, ABS brakes, all-wheel drive, traction control, and crumple zones. Some vehicles have crash avoidance systems like forward-looking radar and systems to help keep drivers in their lanes. A few even have systems that watch the driver for signs of fatigue.

Yet, with the screen displays, with mileage computers and GPS navigation systems, satellite radio and MP3 connections, there are more things to distract a driver from what should be their focus: the road ahead.

And, of course, cellphones and smartphones can be devastatingly distracting, leading to terrible car accidents, where drivers run off the road or crash into other vehicles because they are texting or browsing Facebook.

Sadly, yet another man has died on the roads near Chambersburg in what appears to be a distracted driving crash. A man was killed when his vehicle was struck by a car on I-81.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police, traffic was stopped because of an earlier car accident on I-81 near exit 20, when a distracted driver hit one stopped vehicle, which was then pushed into a third vehicle.

The man who died was in the third vehicle and three other people suffered moderate injuries in the crash.

These types of crashes are becoming too common. Even for those who only suffer injuries, some of those injuries will remain with them the rest of their lives, affecting their quality of life and potentially their ability to work. They often need legal counsel for help with obtaining compensation for those injuries.
