Motorcycle rider loses leg when struck head-on by other vehicle

A public defender for a Pennsylvania County lost his leg in a motorcycle accident on June 20, 2012. The motorcycle accident occurred at 3:30 p.m. when a driver reportedly crossed the double yellow line and struck the motorcycle head-on.

The motorcycle rider was hospitalized for 40 days. Besides having his leg amputated, he also suffered serious injuries to his left side. Another driver was also injured in the crash and suffered burns, lacerations and nerve damage to the hand.

The driver claimed to have been responsible for this crash has been charged with two felony charges of aggravated assault. The Deputy District Attorney in his opening statements concerning this criminal manner stated that the driver took no evasive action before swerving into the other lane. “It was reckless, gross negligent conduct by the defendant that caused serious injuries to the victims in this case.”

There appear to be conflicting views as to how this accident occurred. While witnesses claim observing the driver in the wrong lane, the driver claimed in an audio recording that it was the motorcycle that drove over into her lane.

Personal injury attorneys can provide independent representation for individuals injured in motorcycle accidents. These attorneys can put together an investigation of what occurred and make a determination as to what happened. These attorneys can then advise individuals as to their best legal options for recovery of compensation.

Unfortunately, injuries received in motorcycle accidents are seldom minor. Broken bones, severe lacerations or even loss of limbs are a possibility. Therefore riders will often require substantial compensation when injured due to the negligence of others.
