Semi-truck in head-on collision, leaving two dead in Pennsylvania

On Behalf of | Mar 27, 2014 | Wrongful Death

There are many roads in Pennsylvania that lend themselves to danger. Sharp curves, steep inclines and narrow lanes may seem like they are more dangerous, but drivers should take extra care in these areas to ensure not only their safety, but the well-being of others as well. When motorists negligently navigate these roads, a deadly car accident can occur.

One such accident happened recently when a semi-truck crossed the center line and slammed into another big rig, a car and a pickup truck. The driver of the errant semi-truck was killed as was the driver of the pickup. The stretch of road where the accident occurred, a spot where vehicles must maneuver a downhill curve, is known to be dangerous, but that does not excuse errant driving.

The loss of a loved one is often the most difficult thing in life with which to cope. The deceased’s family members might struggle with the emotional hardship unfairly thrust upon them, and they may also face undeserved financial challenges. This is especially true when a family relied on their lost loved one’s income to pay the bills.

Families in this situation can choose to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the negligent driver who caused the accident. In a case like the one mentioned above, where an errant driver was also killed but was working at the time, then the family might also be able to file a claim against the errant driver’s employer. If a judge or jury can be persuaded to believe negligence caused the victim’s death, then the victim’s surviving family might recover compensation for their damages. This might include lost wages, medical expenses, funeral costs and pain and suffering.

However, these cases can be difficult to put together, especially when going through a time of emotional upset. Therefore, families who lost a loved one in an accident may wish to consider seeking help from an experienced Pennsylvania attorney who will represent their best interests.
