A Pennsylvania mother is facing nine to 23 months in jail for her role in a car crash that claimed the life of a floral deliveryman. The woman drove through a stop sign at a high rate of speed when the collision occurred. She claimed that she was checking on her son and was distracted, but police stated that she was intoxicated at the time of the car accident.
Pennsylvania law enforcement found that the woman had been drinking. She had also taken the prescription medication Ativan. The floral delivery man, retired from the military and the postal service, was partially ejected from the vehicle in the crash and crushed by the weight of the truck as it rolled over. It does not appear that the woman or her 2-year-old son were injured in the collision.
The woman was arrested and charged. She was later convicted of endangering the life of her child and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Even though she will face serious legal repercussions for her reckless actions, it is also possible that she could face a civil suit from the family of the deceased.
No amount of compensation can bring back a loved one after a fatal car accident, but it can help ease the burden caused by funeral expenses and medical costs. The family of the deceased may also be entitled to compensation for lost wages of the deceased and loss of consortium. Family members left behind can benefit from a complete evaluation with an experienced legal professional.
