Hit-and-run leaves pedestrian with serious injuries

Pennsylvania’s motorists should be aware of pedestrians at all times. Failing to do so could result in a tragic, injurious or even fatal accident. These victims then often have to deal with the hardships associated with recovering from such a wreck. This often includes excruciating physical pain, mental turmoil and financial uncertainty. Many times, a lawsuit is the only way for these car accident victims to obtain the compensation they need and to hold the errant drivers who hurt them accountable.

Sadly, one of these accidents occurred recently in Pennsylvania. There, a man was walking down the side of the road when he was struck by a van. The driver failed to stop and the victim was rushed to the hospital where he was in critical condition. As police continued to investigate the accident, the driver turned him or herself in.

Though the driver will likely face criminal charges, they may not be enough closure for the victim. Instead, the victim may wish to try to recover compensation for his damages from the negligent driver who struck him. To do so, the victim must establish negligence and causation through a personal injury lawsuit. If a settlement can be reached before a trial, or if a jury is persuaded during a trial, then compensation may be recovered. These awards can help pay off medical bills, cover lost wages, and compensate for pain and suffering.

Recovering from a serious injury can be a hard mountain to climb. Compensation, though, can make the process easier by allowing the victim to seek out the best medical care possible without fear of being unable to afford his or her other bills.
