A tragic accident recently led to one person’s death as well as injuries to four passengers in Pennsylvania. The car accident took place on a recent Thursday morning. Sometimes fatal or injurious motor vehicle accidents happen because of the carelessness of one individual, which is grounds for a civil suit.
The accident happened at about 7:30 a.m. along State Route 14. Authorities reported that one person was driving and did not navigate a curve properly. This caused the vehicle to suddenly hit a reflector pole as well as several guard rails.
The vehicle then went over one guard rail before rolling into an embankment. The driver of the vehicle, 53, died at the scene of the crash. Meanwhile, the vehicle’s four passengers were transported to the hospital for treatment. The level of their injuries was not reported.
If Pennsylvania police determine that the driver caused the accident due to negligent behavior, such as speeding, the passengers who were injured in the single-car crash may opt to file personal injury claims in this accident case. Even though the vehicle’s driver died in the crash, the injury victims may still choose to sue his estate. They may further file lawsuits against any other person who also owned the vehicle involved in the crash. In their civil claims, they may seek monetary damages, which — if awarded — may help them to cover their hospital costs and other expenses tied to the crash. A monetary award may also help to address emotional distress and pain and suffering linked to these types of motor vehicle accidents.
