Pedestrian vs. car accident kills 1, injures 2 others

There are certain procedures that are usually followed by Pennsylvania law enforcement officials and prosecutors after a fatal car accident. First, a toxicology sample from the driver or drivers must be taken and analyzed. Then, the information gathered by police regarding the car accident is given to prosecutors to determine whether any criminal charges are appropriate.

These processes are in motion in connection with the injury of two pedestrians and the death of a third. At this point, no charges have been filed against the driver involved. In fact, police are still searching for witnesses to the tragedy.

Three pedestrians were crossing the street at approximately 9:30 p.m. on a recent Friday night. A car struck all three of them. One of the three, a woman, made it to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries within an hour of the incident. Another woman suffered injuries that have left her hospitalized in serious condition. The third pedestrian, a man, suffered injuries that were not as severe as the other accident victims.

The two crash survivors may have a long recovery ahead of them, and they will likely be incurring financial losses along the way. The family of the deceased woman will also incur expenses and other damages due to the unexpected loss of their loved one. It may be possible to recover their financial losses associated with the car accident through the filing of a civil action. Negligence must be proved on the part of the car driver before that can happen, however. If successful, a Pennsylvania court may consider entering a monetary judgment that could defray the financial burdens of the victims, including the surviving family of the deceased victim.
