Safety violations common source of many workplace injuries

On Behalf of | Oct 7, 2015 | Workers' Compensation

Pennsylvania workers know that proper training and the use of safety equipment are two of the main ways to avoid workplace accidents. Another key to workplace safety is preventing safety violations, a responsibility that lies with managers, employers and supervisors. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has released a list of common safety violations, which are some of the common reasons for workplace injuries.

One of the most prominent safety violations is the lack of fall protection. Workers who operate large machinery, work from scaffolding or perform tasks from any height should be provided with certain safety protections. This may include helmets, harnesses, training and more. Another common safety violation is a failure to communicate hazards to employees. Other violations that made OSHA’s list include scaffolding, respiratory protection, machine guarding and electrical issues.

Regardless of the cause of workplace accidents, injured Pennsylvania workers are likely eligible for benefits through workers’ compensation insurance. In some cases, a third party may be liable for the damages suffered in a workplace or job site accident. A knowledgeable lawyer can help an injured worker understand how to seek rightful benefits or compensation for his or her related expenses.

After suffering workplace injuries, it can be useful to have the assistance of lawyers who can file claims or seek compensation from liable parties. Filing a workers’ compensation claim can be a complex process, but an injured worker has the right to seek legal assistance for the entire process. Additionally, any injured worker has the right to appeal a denied claim.
