Pennsylvania car accident leads to man’s plea of guilt
Collisions are an all too common occurrence on Pennsylvania roads. Whether on a busy highway or a quiet neighborhood street, a car accident can result in serious injury or even death. Such was the case in a recent fatal crash that resulted in the loss of one life.
Excessive speed of more than 100 mph was said to be the leading factor in the tragic accident. A 23-year-old man was behind the wheel of the car at the time. He and his passenger were traveling through a section of road that apparently had a posted speed limit of 25 mph.
Authorities claim that the man was passing other cars at a very high rate of speed. At some point, his vehicle smashed into a nearby utility pole. The passenger, also age 23, was killed in the collision.
The driver of the vehicle has since pleaded guilty in court to reckless endangerment and vehicular homicide. In a similar Pennsylvania car accident, an immediate family member who has suffered the untimely death of his or her loved one is able to file a wrongful death claim in a civil court. Criminal charges that result in convictions typically serve as evidence of liability in civil cases as personal injury attorneys seek to obtain monetary relief on behalf of their clients for damages incurred. Those considering filing civil claims will first want to arrange consultation with an experienced attorney in the area in order to discuss the details of the situation and determine how best to proceed in court.
