Pennsylvania man sentenced for fatal accident

On Behalf of | Mar 26, 2016 | Wrongful Death

A Pennsylvania driver has been sentenced to prison for four years for his role in a car accident that claimed the life of one person and left two others injured. The man was driving along Route 248 when he crossed the line and collided with the other vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle was declared dead at the scene of the fatal accident, and two passengers in that car, a young women and her four-year-old son, suffered serious injuries.

According to the accident report, the blood alcohol content (BAC) of the driver was double that of the legal limit of .08 percent. Pennsylvania law enforcement also found alcohol in the car at the time of the deadly collision. The young driver faced dozens of offenses related to the crash, and he eventually pleaded guilty to homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence and aggravated assault. The family of this driver says that he takes responsibility for what he was done.

Despite his contrition and criminal conviction, the driver could also face civil litigation for the death of the one individual and the serious injuries of the two others. A criminal case against the driver is completely separate from any civil proceedings, even if he is in jail. The family of the deceased and the injured victims may have grounds to seek financial compensation.

It is always tragic when a fatal accident claims the life of an innocent person. Fortunately, grieving Pennsylvania family members and injured parties have ways to seek legal recourse and financial compensation. When dealing with the aftermath of a complex car accident, it is best to seek the counsel of an experienced personal injury attorney.
